Internship - Historic Preservation Maintenance, Yellowstone National Park

We have a current need for a member of our Historic Preservation Maintenance Team.   Team members work on restoring and maintaining the historic inns and lodges in Yellowstone National Park. To view some of their work please visit our https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=PCTCR-gbpYw.


RESPONSIBILITIES:

  1. Responsible for quality craftsmanship work through assigned work orders and Tasks.
  2. Assists with the care, maintenance and security of all assigned equipment and tools.
  3. Responsible for working safe and complying with all current related codes and regulations.
  4. Responsible for adhering to Xanterra’s Ecologix program.
  5. Performs other duties as assigned.

 

SKILLS AND KNOWLEDGE:

Qualifications for class I

  1. 5 years extensive carpentry skills and or 3 years historic preservation experience or equivalent.
  2. General knowledge of the National Park Service “Secretary of the Interior Standards” and how they         apply to work in Yellowstone Park.
  3. Required to have formal training in at least one aspect of historic preservation.

 

Qualifications for class II

  1. 3 years general carpentry experience or equivalent.
  2. Competent knowledge about the operation and safe use of all carpentry tools and equipment common to the trade.

 

PHYSICAL REQUIREMENTS:

  1. This position will require the use of respiratory protection and will require compliance with applicable regulations, including a clean-shaven face and to be able to pass a DOT physical.
  1. Within 90 days must attend and complete the Class III Asbestos abatement and removal training and certification program.
  1. Must be capable of lifting and moving objects weighing up to 70 pounds.
  2. Must possess physical stamina to withstand heavy labor related to work in an outside environment.
  3. Must be able to walk long distances over uneven terrain and climb stairs and ladders in all types of weather conditions.
  4. Must be able to stand, bend, kneel, and crawl for extended periods of time as required.
  5. Must be at least 21 years old and possess a current, valid, driver’s license with a good driving record.
  6. Must be able to read, understand, interpret and comply with all Xanterra’s company policies and procedures.

 

AUTHORITIES:

  1. Works with location maintenance and National Park Service personnel
  2. Promote Xanterra Company sustainability initiatives by preventing any negative impacts to the environment and incorporating best management practices.
